Book Description:

After Prince Alaric’s death, Daria and Alex set off in search of the legendary box of the Pandors’. The box is famed to hold a secret of power—one strong enough to overcome Lord Eris and the shield of power he stole from Valdon. Daria doesn’t know where the box is hidden, but she can’t ignore the silent urging, beckoning her to the land of Pendel—the land her mother, Aurora Pandor, was from.

Time is running out. Lord Eris’s army of shadowguard vastly outnumber Valdon’s forces, and if Daria doesn’t find the box in time, Valdon will need reinforcements from the other territories to survive. But those territories will not hand over their armies willingly, not without Daria’s hand in marriage.

And there is another, older power rising, one that hasn’t been seen in centuries—one thought lost since the days of Galahad: the dragons.

Excerpt Two:

Sal left, and Alex put one hand on my waist, took my hand in his, and led me into the next dance.

“Where have you been?” I hadn’t meant the words to sound accusatory, but they did.

Alex raised a dark brow, looking a little startled by my outburst. “Where I always am: keeping both eyes on you, and that seems to require a lot of energy these days.” His gaze trailed after Sal, who had already found another morsel to snack on in the form of one of Alex’s groupies.

“You said he’s a thane?” I asked.

Alex nodded, his gaze drifting back to mine. “He governs the land on the western shores. He is Mercedes’ nephew. He will be furious with me for cutting in like this, but I couldn’t help it. He looked like he was about to eat you alive.”

“How do you know I wasn’t about to eat him alive?” I teased. I tried pulling Alex closer, but he firmly held me back at an appropriate distance.

“Careful, your grace,” he said, eyes locked on mine.

He was setting the precedence for our conversation tonight. He was holding up barriers and urging me to stand behind them. He was reminding me that I was a princess and he was my guard, and that I had better act that way.

A new piece started, much slower than the others, and the melody had a kind of lilting and heartbreaking quality to it. I tried not to take it as any kind of symbolism. Still, the dancing slowed and couples moved closer. Even Alex pulled me close, sliding one arm around my waist, and I was distinctly aware of the warmth soaking through the fabric of his sleeve and onto my bare lower back.

“How are you feeling?” Alex asked. His expression was carefully stoic, but his eyes were layered in concern.

“Well, if you must know, I feel a little bit like a pinwheel. Much more twirling and I might just twirl myself right off the edge of this balcony.”

Alex grinned. “We don’t have to dance. I could escort you back to—”

“No.” I held him tighter, gazing defiantly into his eyes. “I missed my turn last time, and I’ve regretted it ever since. But I am a little surprised you’re allowing this…?”

“Allowing what, exactly, your grace?” Even behind his walls of formality, he made the words your grace sound like an expression of intimacy only lovers used.

“Us dancing together.”

“Ah.” He was so controlled and elegant. “I didn’t see any harm in it, considering I’m your Aegis and that you’ve already had your fair share of attention this evening.” There was a glint in his eyes that made me certain he’d heard Sal’s proposition.

“And I see that you’ve had yours.” I glanced askance at the group of girls watching us, clearly unhappy that I’d stolen their shiny new toy.

Alex followed my gaze then whispered, “It’s nice seeing you jealous.”

I let out something of a snort. “Well, I could just put an end to it by ordering you to dance with me the rest of the evening. I’m not so sure I want to share you.” I tried to move in a little closer, but Alex’s grip firmly held me back again.

“I’m sorry, your grace,” he said, his eyes glittering like emeralds, “but I would have to politely refuse those orders.”

Book 2:

Winter has fallen upon Valdon.

It’s been five months since Daria Regius arrived at the castle, and her grandfather, the king, has stripped her of all freedoms, building even more barriers around her lonely life.

But darkness moves. Rumors abound about a dark rider, sending ancient and unspeakable horrors to the territories, and the citizens of Gaia are filled with fear. And fear blurs the lines of loyalty and trust, honor and allegiance, and cultivates dissonance throughout the kingdom. The people are anxious for this year’s games, because this year, according to prophecy, selecting a champion means a true king can be chosen, and only once that true king is chosen can the people have any hopes of defeating the evil amassing around them.

Propelled by fear for those she loves, unexpected friendships, and harrowing betrayal, Daria must gain the courage to escape the barriers set around her life and confront the evil that threatens to destroy Gaia—before it finds her and takes her life first.

Book 1:

For centuries, the people of Gaia have kept their magical world a secret to protect Earth from themselves. But magic can’t save them from the evil they face within. The key to their salvation lies with eighteen-year old Daria Jones, a young girl from Earth with no magical ability at all.

Or so she thought.

Her father’s mysterious disappearance from their Fresno, California home sets a whirlwind of events in motion, and Daria soon learns where to find him. The only problem is that she’s learned this information from Alex—the guy she grew up with. The guy that was her very best friend until three years ago when he left without a trace. But now he’s back (and devastatingly handsome. Unfortunately.) And he’s claiming that her father has been taken to a magical world—a magical world Alex has been all this time. The same magical world she must go to in order to save her father.

Now Daria has to decide whether to stay away from the guy that betrayed her, or to trust him with helping her find her father. But if this evil finds her first, she won’t even get the choice.

Synopsis:

This book contains strong language and sexual content and is intended for ages 17+.

Rob Kensington is just your typical high school senior. Athletic, intelligent, handsome. Sees a therapist once a week. Because his parents just died in a house fire of questionable origin. And he doesn’t seem to care.
Maybe he isn’t so typical.

Sara Marsh had no clue when she returned to live with her divorced father that the bedroom down the hall would be occupied by a stray with a major attitude problem. The last time she saw Rob, he was a brooding goth who could have passed as Marilyn Manson’s love child. But at some point during her three years away, Creepy Kensington managed to evolve into a sizzling hot star running back with smoldering hazel eyes.

The attraction is undeniable. The temptation is irresistible. And soon they’re sharing more than just an address. But with another life lost in a deliberately set blaze, Sara’s trust is faltering. Has she lost her heart to a serial arsonist? He’s already shown her the allure of playing with fire.

And someone’s about to get burned.

EXCERPTS

“Hellooo, baaaa-by!

Startled, I floundered to cover my boobs while splashing water over the side of the tub and all across the floor in the process. “What the hell! What are you – get out of here!” I threw a loofah at him but in my haste I missed.

Ignoring my demand, Rob moseyed over to kneel beside the bathtub, propping his arms on the edge and smirking at my compromising position. There weren’t any bubbles left to hide under, so I quickly drew my knees up to my chest and wrapped my arms around them. “What are you, deaf? I said get out!

“I heard what you said.” To my amazement, he dipped his fingers in the water and swirled them around. “Water’s getting cold.”

“Then take your hand out of it!” I snapped, my cheeks flushing pink.

“I think we should let it out.” He reached underwater for the drain stopper, and his grin slowly spread as my eyes widened.

“Don’t you dare.”

“See…payback’s a bitch, now isn’t it?”

“Don’t touch that drain. I mean it.” To my horror, I felt an overwhelming urge to laugh and I pressed my lips together to suppress a smile. For some idiotic reason, whenever I get nervous I start giggling like a deranged person. I have no idea why. It’s very annoying, especially because it happens at the most inopportune moments.

“I thought we were playing You-Show-Me-Yours-And-I’ll-Show-You-Mine.” He lifted the edge of the stopper just enough to tease me, allowing a small amount of water to escape. “Well, you had your go and now it’s my turn.”

“I think you’ve had one too many beers!” That probably wasn’t even far from the truth. After all, I’d never seen him acting this cheeky before.

“Whoops. Oh my goodness – what do we have here?” He plucked the stopper completely out and held it up, just out of my reach. The water began to rush down the drain. To me it seemed to be disappearing ten times faster than usual.

“It’s not funny!” I protested, even though I was struggling not to giggle at that point. My shoulders were shaking.

“I’m not the one laughing,” he reminded me.

“All right – fine, you got me back. Ha, ha, you’re so clever. At least hand me a towel.”

“Mm…I don’t think so.”

“Hand me a freaking towel!” The water was getting perilously low, and I shoved one foot over the drain to try and diminish the flow.

“You didn’t say please…” he sang softly.

“Rob…” I looked straight at him then, directly into those hazel eyes, and something I saw in them squashed my impulse to laugh. I don’t know what it was, but all of a sudden the only impulse I felt anymore was the overpowering urge to kiss him. And not only that. I had the craziest compulsion to wrap my arms around his neck and pull him on top of me and let him do me six ways to Sunday, right there in the bathtub.

My expression must have been transparent because his smile inexplicably faded. He hesitated for a moment, his eyes searching mine. For what, I can’t say. But I guess he didn’t find what he was looking for there. Straightening, he tossed me the drain stopper and walked out without a word.

EXCERPT

After all the audience members who had crowded around him asking questions left, he closed his laptop and put his papers into his briefcase. She’d been standing by watching him interact with the people who came up to him to ask a question. Whether he spoke to a man or woman, he carefully explained his point, respecting their own knowledge and experience. When everyone was gone, he strode over to her, his eyes pinning her against the wall where she was leaning. Her heart beat faster.

All at once she realized she hadn’t given even a single thought to her experiment, and she chided herself. He was only a speaker for their series and would be gone within moments. She’d been so mesmerized by his lecture that everything but his voice had faded into the background. How had she let that happen? She’d never forgotten her work before.

From time to time while listening to him, she’d shivered at the very sexy, low, throaty timbre of his voice. She could imagine him whispering sweet nothings in her ear. As he came up to her and smiled, she swallowed and tried to get ahold of herself. This was ridiculous. She was a serious scientist.

“Wow.” She cleared her throat. “You had them in the palm of your hand within the first five minutes. You’re an excellent speaker.”

He bowed slightly. “Thank you. Right now I’m also a thirsty and hungry speaker. Could I talk you into going out with me for a drink and maybe some appetizers?”

Now that she’d remembered it, her thoughts went immediately to her experiment. She hated to leave it, but she was torn. She hadn’t had this kind of strong attraction to anyone ever and yet, her experiment was tremendously important to her career. Screwing her mouth up in disappointment, she said, “I’m sorry. I can’t. I have some extremely important results coming through the supercomputer. It’s something I’ve been awaiting for some time.”

“Ah, so that’s why you rushed into the lobby just in time to whisk me to the lecture hall when I got here and then ran off to let me prepare the equipment alone. You have a hot project on the burner.”

She grinned. “Guilty. I hope you didn’t feel abandoned.”

“No. I’ve been in the same boat. I figured you had something going on. Or, at least I figured that after I checked my breath and gave my armpits a sniff.” He winked.

“I’m sorry. I’d really like to go out and get a drink with you, calm my nerves a little after watching that computer for hour after hour. Plus, I missed lunch.” Not to mention she didn’t want to say good-bye to him yet. And she was damned tired of eating meals alone at her desk and spending evenings and nights hunched over printouts and lists of numbers. Then there was the urge to touch him and wend her fingers through his rich brown hair.

Putting both hands into his pants’ pockets, he rocked back on his heels. “Tell you what. You take me around back and show me your setup. Then you can take a peek at the computer and make sure it’s proceeding through its program okay. Maybe after that you’ll feel more at ease leaving it for a bit to go out for drinks and sustenance.”

“Deal.” She grinned again. It was so nice to enjoy the company of someone who understood what it was like to be babysitting a project. She hardly knew him yet, but what she knew of him she liked. They had a chemistry that zinged between them like electricity between two clouds. She’d be a fool not to follow through with him as far as she could. If he left in the morning, that wouldn’t be far, but she could dream, couldn’t she?

Sitting next to her with his own steaming cup of coffee, Kevin eases back and then turns to her.  “Tell me about this Shaw Street Strangler character.”

“Oh, him,” Helen sighs and take a long sip from her mug.  “I saved a lot of the papers for you, I knew you’d want to read them.”

“So I do,” he readily agrees.  “Tell me first.”  Gently reaching out with one hand, Kevin gets under her bent knees to pull her legs straight and settle her slippered feet in his lap.

For the next hour or more, over cups of coffee and while the cabin warms, they sit and chat about the biggest news to hit Tarrytown in…well…in just about forever.  When she finishes he sits there a long moment letting it all settle before he speaks.  “You know you left both doors open last night.  If there’s some maniac on the loose, Ellie, you need to keep them locked.”

“No, I didn’t,” Helen shakes her head and looks at him queerly.  “I locked them before I got into the shower.”

Kevin can’t tell if she’s placating him or if she might have had one too many Valium earlier in the day yesterday and simply thought she’d locked the doors.  He does know that when he arrived he put his hand on the front door’s knob and it opened, he walked in and stood in the hall listening to her sing along with Ella and waiting for her to make her appearance.  If he’d been this Shaw Street Strangler character, Ellie would have been easy pickings.  “How do you think I got in, Ellie?”

Ellie sighs as she takes down a long drink from her third cup of coffee.  “I locked them,” she whispers in protest.

“No, you didn’t.  The front door was unlocked and the slider was ajar.”  Kevin takes her hands in his. “Listen to me, El, you have to be more careful, make sure to lock your doors.  Don’t you know I’d go crazy if something happened to you?”

“Would you?”

“Yes.”  Wishing she’d take this a bit more seriously, “I can’t go through losing another woman, Ellie,” Kevin confesses, “don’t make me, ok?”

“I have you to keep me safe.”  Her hands close around his as the tenderness and sincerity in his voice wraps around her heart.  “I did lock them but, for you, from now on I’ll make double sure.  Good enough?”

“For now.”  He slides the palm of his hand over the side of her head wanting to say I love you but fearing she isn’t ready to hear it.

SOR A Game with Conjured Dice VBT Banner

BLURB

A little girl whose family has been split up by divorce is led by a ghost to some e with the power to warp the personal realities of those who roll them. Using them to make herself a teenager, and her teenage sister a little girl, she starts a chase to bring her home and set things right. Then, as her mom begins to understand the dice’s potential, she comes up with a plan to get back at the trophy wife who stole her husband. But, when she learns the dice’s true origins, which are linked to tragedy and death, the mom questions what to do next.

Excerpt:

Lindsay looked at her kid sister. “So, whatcha wanna do?”

“I wanna be big like you. I wish I was big like you.”

Lindsay chuckled. “You will be eventually. You heard Mom. So, what do you want to play?”

“I want to play Magic Dice. It won’t take long. You can’t play too long.”

“Okay.” Lindsay looked around. “Where do we play?” “Here on the floor.” Mia plopped into a sitting position on the hardwood floor. “You sit with me.”

“Okay.” Lindsay sat. “I’ve never heard of this game. How do you play?”

“We each take a dice.”

“A die,” Lindsay corrected. “One is a die, two are dice.”

“Oh.” The correction didn’t seem to bother Mia. “So, we each get a die. I get the big one so I get bigger. You get the small one so you get smaller.”

Lindsay smiled at her sister’s make-believe game. “But I don’t want to be smaller.”

“You have to roll both dice for the magic to work.” Mia’s green eyes were imploring.

Lindsay shrugged. “Give me my die.” She looked at both dice, tucking a strand of brown hair behind her ear. Her die was noticeably smaller than Mia’s. The dice looked handmade, and very old. “Where did you get these?”

“I found them digging in my garden.” Mia’s wavy blonde hair bounced around her head.

“They look it. Now what?”

“Now we just roll the dice,” Mia said.

Lindsay nodded. “Let’s roll.”

The two girls each rolled a one. “Snake eyes,” Lindsay clapped.

Mia shook her head. “We need to roll again. That’s not enough.”

Lindsay still didn’t understand this game, but went along. This time, Lindsay rolled a three and Mia a six.

Mia looked up at Lindsay. “That’s better. We can go again. Do you want to?”

“Why not?” They rolled again. This time, Lindsay rolled a two and Mia a one.

Lindsay tilted her head. “One more time?”

“Really?” Mia seemed genuinely surprised. “You’d let me be that big?”

“Sure.” Lindsay nodded. “Let’s roll.”

Mia rolled a three. Then Lindsay tossed a four.

Lindsay bounced once as she sat. “Wanna go again?”

Mia shook her head. “We can’t. You might get too little.” The little girl got up and kissed her big sister on the cheek. “Thanks, little sis.”

Lindsay smiled. “You’re welcome, big sis.”

Mia grabbed the dice and bounced out of the room.

Lindsay chuckled, then yawned. That hadn’t been too bad. Lindsay found herself getting very sleepy.

A few minutes later, Jennifer called up the stairs, saying dinner was ready. Lindsay put on her flip-flops. She staggered downstairs, eating very little while Mia scarfed down thirds.

As she went back upstairs, Lindsay’s flip-flops slipped off as she reached the top step. They seemed too big, and her form-fitting jeans seemed loose. So sleepy she couldn’t think straight, Lindsay collapsed onto bed, barely getting the covers over her before she passed out.

Early Saturday morning, Lindsay heard someone at her closet. She looked over groggily. “Hmm?”

“It’s just me. I’m just borrowing some clothes.”

The figure Lindsay saw through her sleep was tall and slim. She held up a t-shirt and some jeans.

“Hmm.” The figure glanced at her feet. “A little small, but it’ll have to do. And my feet are so big. I’ll have to make the flip-flops work ‘til I can figure out a replacement.”

The figure leaned down and kissed a sleepy Lindsay’s right cheek. “I love you, little sis. Thanks.”

Through the haze of her sleepiness, Lindsay knew the kiss. “Luv you, Mia.” She went back to sleep.

Beck has five days before the car is repaired to steal Rainey away from a boyfriend who doesn’t deserve her. Five days before she’s gone for good.

EXCERPT:

“Oh. My. God. Adam. You’re good with this? You seem like you are.” Because I was ecstatic. “Wow, I can’t believe you’re done with baseball.” I leaned over the console and kissed him. God, I loved this man.

“I’m not done with baseball.” He had the gall to smile against my lips. “I got a job coaching in the Pioneer League in Missoula. Montana.”

“Montana?” I felt like I’d been kicked in the gut.

Just last season, the front office of the Blowfish minor league team here in Columbia had offered Adam a job as an assistant coach. Adam turned them down, said his shoulder was good and he was going to play baseball a few more years, maybe forever. Now all of a sudden, he’s going to coach in a lesser league two thousand miles away?

“Yeah, babe, I rented a house. Montana’s gorgeous, you’re going to love it, and when you come visit—.”

“Visit.”
