Impassioned: I don’t have the strength to stay away from you anymore.

ME: Then don’t!

Impassioned:  How different a feeling it is to stay on the main stream and then say it here.

ME: Of course. On the main stream, I just thought it was chatter without any meaning.

Impassioned: It was never mere chat, and still isn’t. Only you understood it now.

I smiled.

ME: Yes, I guess so.

Impassioned: Onaiza!

ME: Yes?

Impassioned: Asher!

Oh!! He was finally telling me his name. Wow! Just wow!

ME: Nice to meet your, Asher 🙂

EXCERPT

After all the audience members who had crowded around him asking questions left, he closed his laptop and put his papers into his briefcase. She’d been standing by watching him interact with the people who came up to him to ask a question. Whether he spoke to a man or woman, he carefully explained his point, respecting their own knowledge and experience. When everyone was gone, he strode over to her, his eyes pinning her against the wall where she was leaning. Her heart beat faster.

All at once she realized she hadn’t given even a single thought to her experiment, and she chided herself. He was only a speaker for their series and would be gone within moments. She’d been so mesmerized by his lecture that everything but his voice had faded into the background. How had she let that happen? She’d never forgotten her work before.

From time to time while listening to him, she’d shivered at the very sexy, low, throaty timbre of his voice. She could imagine him whispering sweet nothings in her ear. As he came up to her and smiled, she swallowed and tried to get ahold of herself. This was ridiculous. She was a serious scientist.

“Wow.” She cleared her throat. “You had them in the palm of your hand within the first five minutes. You’re an excellent speaker.”

He bowed slightly. “Thank you. Right now I’m also a thirsty and hungry speaker. Could I talk you into going out with me for a drink and maybe some appetizers?”

Now that she’d remembered it, her thoughts went immediately to her experiment. She hated to leave it, but she was torn. She hadn’t had this kind of strong attraction to anyone ever and yet, her experiment was tremendously important to her career. Screwing her mouth up in disappointment, she said, “I’m sorry. I can’t. I have some extremely important results coming through the supercomputer. It’s something I’ve been awaiting for some time.”

“Ah, so that’s why you rushed into the lobby just in time to whisk me to the lecture hall when I got here and then ran off to let me prepare the equipment alone. You have a hot project on the burner.”

She grinned. “Guilty. I hope you didn’t feel abandoned.”

“No. I’ve been in the same boat. I figured you had something going on. Or, at least I figured that after I checked my breath and gave my armpits a sniff.” He winked.

“I’m sorry. I’d really like to go out and get a drink with you, calm my nerves a little after watching that computer for hour after hour. Plus, I missed lunch.” Not to mention she didn’t want to say good-bye to him yet. And she was damned tired of eating meals alone at her desk and spending evenings and nights hunched over printouts and lists of numbers. Then there was the urge to touch him and wend her fingers through his rich brown hair.

Putting both hands into his pants’ pockets, he rocked back on his heels. “Tell you what. You take me around back and show me your setup. Then you can take a peek at the computer and make sure it’s proceeding through its program okay. Maybe after that you’ll feel more at ease leaving it for a bit to go out for drinks and sustenance.”

“Deal.” She grinned again. It was so nice to enjoy the company of someone who understood what it was like to be babysitting a project. She hardly knew him yet, but what she knew of him she liked. They had a chemistry that zinged between them like electricity between two clouds. She’d be a fool not to follow through with him as far as she could. If he left in the morning, that wouldn’t be far, but she could dream, couldn’t she?

STEAL ME, COWBOY

by Kim Boykin

BLURB:

Unbeknownst to her boyfriend, Sassy South Carolina hairstylist, Rainey Brown, is headed to Missoula, dead set on giving her minor league baseball player boyfriend of four years an ultimatum. Either put a ring on it or let her go, preferably not the latter.

When Rainey’s piece of crap car dies in the middle of Nowhere, Montana, she’s sure she’s a gonner, until gorgeous restaurateur Beck Hartnett stops to help. Beck falls hard for Rainey, and knows she would admit she’s fallen for him too, if she wasn’t too stubborn to admit it. Beck has five days before the car is repaired to steal Rainey away from a boyfriend who doesn’t deserve her. Five days before she’s gone for good.

EXCERPT:

“Oh. My. God. Adam. You’re good with this? You seem like you are.” Because I was ecstatic. “Wow, I can’t believe you’re done with baseball.” I leaned over the console and kissed him. God, I loved this man.

“I’m not done with baseball.” He had the gall to smile against my lips. “I got a job coaching in the Pioneer League in Missoula. Montana.”

“Montana?” I felt like I’d been kicked in the gut.

Just last season, the front office of the Blowfish minor league team here in Columbia had offered Adam a job as an assistant coach. Adam turned them down, said his shoulder was good and he was going to play baseball a few more years, maybe forever. Now all of a sudden, he’s going to coach in a lesser league two thousand miles away?

“Yeah, babe, I rented a house. Montana’s gorgeous, you’re going to love it, and when you come visit—.”

“Visit.”

#VBT Sliding into Black by #Author T. L. Kitae #Romance

Sliding_into_Black_Cover_for_smashwords

During the cultural revolution of the 1960’s and ’70’s, the war in Vietnam continued, daily casualties calmly reported on the evening news. Shaw, a brilliant ex-Navy Seal, has managed to come home alive after two tours in Vietnam and is now involved in black ops with Naval Intelligence, stationed in the exotic Hawaiian Islands.

The revolution had evolved into social and anti-war protests, rock ‘n roll, drugs, feminism, burn-your-bras, and casual sex, arriving in Hawaii as tradewinds of change.

An unorthodox romance springs up between Shaw and Marie, his boss’s daughter. From the moment they meet, sparks fly and the erotic heat between them runs as hot as the lava streaming from Hawaii’s volcano, Kilauea.

Thus, the first installment of the Sliding into Black trilogy begins.

“I go back to the wind blowing my long, blonde hair around me, the delicious feeling of speed, top down on our GTO.

Young, with no sense of mortality – after all, we have everything that life has to offer in front of us.

Spring break and we’re heading to my best friend, Jen’s family condo at Myrtle Beach. Yes, yes, yes – an hour away from a needed break from the university, lectures and oh, god, the research papers! Chris and I have been going out together for over a year, exclusively for a few months. We enjoy the same things, are study buddies, come from the same small town – basically we’re best friends with benefits.

We agree, it’s not love, but damn, the sex is fantastic! There doesn’t seem to be any end to the white-hot sexual attraction we have. We can’t keep our hands and lips off each other. We’re like moths to a flame.

interviewnewheaders3

What are your five favorite books, and why?

Tough question! I am an avid, maybe even rabid book reader! So here goes, not in any particular order, and not any favorite over the other.

1) The Bone Bed, Patricia Cornwell. I love her characters, how they seem to stand in front of you, and the intricate details that she weaves into every book.

2) Bonnie, Iris Johansen. Ms. Johansen’s work fascinates me and Eve is an irrestible character.

3) Fantasy in Death by J.D. Robb. Love, love, love everything that Norah Roberts aka J.D. Robb writes. All of her characters are ultra-cool and the plots well defined.

4) Feastday of Fools, James Lee Burke. Mr. Burke has a unique writing style that is amazing in it’s descriptiveness and detail. Every word leaps off the page and a picture starts forming immediately of each character, location, and each action.

5) A Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin (all 4 books). Epic story telling, like watching a movie in your head.

These are just newer books, there are many, many other authors and classics that beguile me.

How do you approach cover design?

This is a great question because personally, the cover of a book will attract me first as I am a visual person and learner. First the cover needs to pull me in and second, I like interesting pictures or drawings and hope that they give me a hint of what’s inside. For Sliding into Black, it was imperative to show a Hawaiian beach, then hopefully a Shaw and Maria. It came together well!

What do you read for pleasure?

Fantasies, Science Fiction, Mysteries and Erotic Romances.

What is your e-reading device of choice?

Right now, a Kindle Fire. Love it!

Describe your desk

My desk is a mess. But don’t touch it! Each stack means something and only I know what it is!

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?

I was a semi-military brat, lived all over the U.S. and Hawaii. So far, there is nowhere that has beat Hawaii for overall climate, beaches, things to do and see, and

wonderful warm people! Hawaii has influenced my life more than anyplace I lived, except for twenty years on a horse and cattle farm. I loved writing the first book of the Sliding into Black trilogy with Hawaii as the setting – so romantic!

When did you first start writing?

I started writing as a child, mostly diaries and journals. As I progressed through school, several teachers told me that I should consider writing as a profession. But life happens. Now I have the chance to write books and am loving every minute of it.

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?

Sharing thoughts, ideas and introducing people to new places or bringing back memories for them. Of course, there is always a release. Writing can be cathartic.

What do your fans mean to you?

My fans are why I write. They let you know what they like and what they don’t pretty quick and I love the feedback – take every bit to heart and apply to the next book. You can’t grow without praise and constructive criticism. I appreciate every fan!

What are you working on next?

Book 2 of the Sliding into Black trilogy. What’s going on with Shaw? What will Marie do? So much fun!

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?

My family, my cat and my horses!

Three couples, all friends from college on a road trip for that much needed spring break. Somehow Chris and I have gotten ahead of the rest of the kids, so we take advantage of the moment. I slide my tongue into Chris’s ear, down his neck, under his long blonde hair and down to his nipple.

Lightly I bite his nipple and circle it with my tongue, lovingly tasting the salt from his sweat.”

Excerpt from IGNITED by Kaylea Cross:

“Almost there,” he said over his shoulder, pulling her along in his wake.

The sudden loud blare of horns made them both snap their heads to their right.

A white delivery-style truck was barreling up the first available unclogged street, right toward the tall buildings on the opposite side of the intersection a half block away. Hunter stopped walking so fast that Khalia bumped into his back. Before she could retreat a step she felt the unnatural stillness in him, a silent tension that made her jerk her head around to stare at the truck.

It was moving too fast and showed no sign of slowing down. Everyone else was staring now too. The street dead ended at the tall rows of buildings lining it, and there was no way the truck could turn the corner given its speed. Horns were still blaring as the vehicle whizzed past other traffic at breakneck speed. She watched in astonishment as it blew through the stop light and hurtled straight toward the building across the dead end intersection.

Hunter whirled and grabbed her shoulders, pushing her toward the ground. “Get down!” he yelled.

What? Too stunned to protest, Khalia sprawled flat on the pavement. The breath whooshed out of her as Hunter’s hard weight landed on her back, squashing her against the burning hot sidewalk. Someone near her screamed. A split second later she heard the loud bang of an impact, then the still air was ripped apart by a violent explosion. The force of it tore over her like a raging wind, whipped through her body like a shockwave. Her eardrums and lungs felt like they’d exploded from the pressure. For a split second the sidewalk rolled and bucked beneath them as if they were on a boat.

It took a moment for the truth to sink in. A bomb.

Her heart hammered against her ribs. Hunter was still on top of her, his arms crossed over her head and face to shield her. She didn’t dare move. People were screaming, running past them, even over them. Hunter grunted when someone stepped on him, but he didn’t budge from his position atop her. She could hear the sound of glass shattering close by, hitting the ground somewhere behind them with a sharp crash. The smell of smoke and burning wreckage was already thick in the air, as well as an audible roar that pulsed against her throbbing eardrums.

When the mass of panicking people around them began to thin out, Hunter’s weight finally lifted from her. She sucked in a shaky breath, her compressed lungs aching with the effort, and dared to lift her head. Only to witness a scene straight out of hell.

An #Interview with @alliegailauthor, Author of the Immortal Touch Series

20130914-101705.jpg

Today, I would like to welcome my favorite author, Allie Gail on Book Reviews where I will interview her about her recent release, Fire and Ash, released on September 11, 2013.

  • Welcome Allie! Before we start with the interview, tell us one unique fact about yourself.

I was an adopted child! I was fortunate enough to have been chosen by a loving family who provided me with all the wonderful memories every little girl should experience. And they are all extremely supportive of my writing, so I count myself very blessed.

That’s nice.

  • What inspired you to write your first book?

To be honest, I just sat down in front of the computer one day and started typing out a story because I wanted to see if I could actually do it. Although once I began writing I couldn’t stop – it had a snowball effect and I was having way too much fun with it. I hadn’t done this since my creative writing class and had forgotten how much I enjoyed it. Don’t ask how long ago that was either. I’m not telling!

  • How did you come up with the title?

The main protagonist (or should I say villain!) is named Ash, and the “fire” represents the passion he shares with Samara.

  • How much of the book is realistic?

Only the locations are realistic. I live near the beach, so I thought it would make an interesting setting. I mean, who would expect to find a vampire living in a vacation resort in Florida? The story itself is completely fantasy. Which is a good thing because Ash is hardly what you’d classify as the most upstanding citizen.

  • Which character in Fire and Ash do you connect with the most?  Why?

I would have to say Dane Chandler. Mainly because he’s shy and socially awkward and never knows the right thing to say. And he gets himself into trouble without meaning to. I’ve always had a predilection for doing just that!

  • I duly understand what you just said and having read Fire and Ash, I can very well link the two. Anyways, let’s talk about your writing habits. When was the first time you ever wrote for a career?

I’ve just recently begun to view this as a career. I never would have envisioned myself as a published author, but I can say that it’s truly an incredible feeling to be afforded the opportunity to do something you love as a profession.

  • Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?

With the internet, it isn’t necessary! I spend a lot of time doing online research to make the settings as realistic and authentic as possible. While working on Winter’s Touch, for instance, I became well acquainted with the beautiful area surrounding Mount Hood. Not to mention Nethy Bridge, Scotland, which is where Julian underwent his transformation. Fire and Ash was somewhat easier since I live near the Gulf of Mexico myself.

  • Do you listen to music while you write?

Absolutely! Music is my inspiration. While writing Winter’s Touch, I listened to a lot of Enya and Celtic music. Adrian von Ziegler’s compositions were also a favorite. For Fire and Ash, a variety of psychedelic sixties songs obviously since Ash has a thing for that genre. It just depended on which chapter I was working on at the time. Each situation called for its own definitive style.

  • What can we expect to see from you in the future?

I’d like to continue the journey with part three of the series. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of…well, let’s not give away any spoilers here.

  • Do you have any advice for other writers?

Yes – don’t stop writing! There are so many people with a passion for reading, and they need YOU to share your unique stories with them!

Well, thank you Allie for joining me tonight. For the fans who are interested in her book, I shall enclose a synopsis and a blurb to prick their curiosity for their book.

Title: Fire and Ash

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Synopsis:

To the humans employed at his beachfront resort, Florida real estate developer Asher Reid is known as a narcissistic womanizer and temperamental control freak. To the secret, select group of immortals, he is the irrefutable enforcer of vampire law. Yet hidden beneath the charismatic façade lie the alpha’s true obsessions – adrenaline highs, nightshade and an enduring lust for depravity.

Running from a faithless ex-fiancé who won’t stop stalking her, Samara Porter hopes to find refuge working within the posh resort. But her tropical paradise houses an even bigger threat when she becomes the prime target for Asher’s unwholesome games.

Seduced by his deviant desires, Sami quickly finds herself caught up in a world where pain and pleasure coexist, testing the boundaries of how far she is willing to go to learn his corrupt secrets. And with her final test of loyalty comes a dark ultimatum – to kill for him…or face his lethal wrath.

Excerpt:

As if on cue, the dark sky above the ocean suddenly exploded in bursts of blue and red. The rowdy revelers along the beach cheered and applauded their approval.

Still on his knees, Ash maneuvered himself so he was directly behind her, one hand placed gently on her right shoulder while his soft breath tickled her neck. His left hand reached stealthily around her. “Take the gun, Sami.” She accepted it with shaking hands in the vain hope that he’d withdraw at the last second, tell her she didn’t have to do this, that it was all just a test of obedience and he’d never meant for her to actually shoot anyone. He couldn’t possibly be that warped, could he? To ask her to murder someone in cold blood, in the midst of hundreds of witnesses – surely the man wasn’t that depraved.

His hushed voice was sensuous against her cheek. “Relax, baby. Just watch the fireworks. We’ll wait until they light the Thunder Kings. Some anonymous donor was thoughtful enough to contribute two hundred cartons of them. They have one hell of a report and the gunfire will blend right in.”

“Ash…” Her anxious plea cracked helplessly and she found herself unable to vocalize anything further, all language forgotten as her mind raced desperately in search of an out. Refusal wasn’t an option with him. But it was possible, just possible, that the replacement magazine contained blanks as well…wasn’t it? She clutched that thought to her like a security blanket.

“Shh…” His lips brushed her jaw, trailing feathery kisses down her neck that reawakened her intense longing for him despite her predicament. “For me, sweet angel. Do this for me. Be perfect for me.” He was practically purring against her skin, seducing her with his charisma in a way that only he could. When he turned on the charm there was nothing she could deny him – nothing.

Not even this.

His hands covered hers over the grip. “Suppose I help you aim…just in case you get the notion to deliberately miss.” He forced her to lift the Ruger. “When I tell you to, I want you to unload the entire magazine. There’s a bullet in the chamber – you’re good to go. All you have to do is pull the trigger. Nothing to it, right?”

Nothing to it. Nothing at all.

All or nothing.

Her heart skipped a beat when the echoing reports filled the air, and the honey-sweet voice in her ear urged, “Go ahead, baby. Don’t fail me.”

She didn’t allow herself any hesitation, didn’t grant her conscience the time to form a protest, simply closed her eyes and mindlessly squeezed the trigger. Again and again and again, until the weapon in her hands produced nothing but empty clicks that sounded in their finality even more ominous than the shots themselves and she waited, waited with pounding heart…

There were no screams. No cries for help. The steady drone of voices from the beach went on as before, the fireworks continued to boom and crackle in the night sky, and reluctantly she opened her eyes. Seated on the blanket beside Danielle, Laiken leaned forward to listen to something one of their group was saying, shaking his blond mane with a broad grin, oblivious to his brush with death. Unharmed. Alive.

At her feet, the sugar-white sand was littered with empty shell casings.

And against her ear was his soft, velvety laugh.

About the author:

Allie

A resident of sunny Florida, Allie Gail is the author of Unconventional Scars, Winter’s Touch: Immortal Touch Book One and Fire and Ash: Immortal Touch Book Two. Allie’s had an obsession with reading ever since the day she was issued her first Sally, Dick and Jane reader. (Never mind how long ago that was!) When she isn’t busy obsessing over the lexicon of her novels, she can usually be found with her nose in a book, a cat on her lap and music impairing her hearing from headphones turned up way too high. Or sometimes roaming about Azeroth as a night elf rogue. Yep, that’s right.

And yes, on occasion…at the beach
