Genre: Science Fiction Romance

Bree never thought her dimwit act, military grade mace, cattle prod, or dumping a ton of stinky manure on Jaylan’s head would encourage his pursuit. Who knew a Coletti warlord would think of being zapped with a cattle prod as foreplay? Or a determined opponent only heightened his enjoyment of the chase?

The chase comes to an abrupt halt when the Tai-Kok attack Tucson, forcing Bree to team up with the Coletti warlord to stop them. Suddenly plucked from Earth by a crazed Tai-Kok commander, Jaylan and Bree find themselves stranded on a hostile alien world, and being tracked by a deadly Askole assassin. It’s really no time for the two of them to fall in love.

A thick cloud of dust obscured the landscape. A shadow moved in the dust.

The shadow became a form.

The form became a man. Holy Mother of God! I hit the emergency beacon on my belt and bolted. I hoped Pops was monitoring the frequency.

Jaylan’s powerful body slammed into me, knocking me down. He locked his arms around me in an unbreakable hold. “You will not escape me again.”

I squirmed against his crushing grip. “Wanna bet?”

Jaylan’s teeth scraped lightly across my neck.

Sheer blind panic overwhelmed me. If he took my blood, he could find me anywhere, anytime he wished. “No! Let go of me, you stinky, manure-covered bastard.”

“It ends now,” Jaylan purred in my head, and sank his teeth deep into my neck.

My body tightened as a pleasure-pain roared through me. The pleasure increased with every draw until my panties were wet and my pussy throbbed. “Stop! Damn you. Stop!” I beat frantically at his mind.

Jaylan suddenly stiffened. “Your blood is most unusual.”

Oh crap. Was my secret about to be exposed? “Really? How strange.” Through our link, I felt him swish my blood around his mouth as if he was savoring its very essence.

“Who is your father?”

“Hank Benson.”

Withdrawing his fangs, Jaylan licked the wounds on my neck and growled. “No. Your father is Coletti. You will tell me his name.”

“He’s dead. What difference does it make?”

His fingers clamped painfully around my jaw. “His name.”

One look at the menace glittering in Jaylan’s eyes, and I almost peed my pants. “My mother called him Thor.”

Jaylan jumped to his feet, dragging me with him. “How did he die?”

“He was trampled.”

“By what?”

“Horses. Mom got him hired as a stuntman in her Viking flick. He was a piss-poor rider. He fell off his horse and was trampled.”

“That is not possible. He was Coletti,” Jaylan corrected sharply.

“So you knew him?”

There was a fleeting second of inky blackness, and we were standing in the war room of a Coletti battle cruiser. Yippee-ki-yay. Escaping just got a tad bit harder.

Six muscle-bound warriors snapped to attention. When the overpowering stench of horse manure hit them, they all took an instinctive step backward.

A horde of flies buzzed merrily around Jaylan’s shit-covered head.

Who knew flies could be teleported? I waved a hand in front of my face. “Wow, someone really stinks, don’t they?” I batted at the nasty critters. “Y’all have a fly swatter?”

The warriors stared at me in disbelief.

With a big smile, I gushed, “I’m Bree, and I think you know stinky guy here. The poor thing is a bit accident-prone. Right, honey bunny?”

His big hand wrapped around the back of my neck, and Jaylan bellowed in my head, “Not another word or I’ll throw you on the table and complete the mating bond now.”

“You’d do me in front of them?” I wrinkled my nose in disgust. “All covered in manure?”

A low growl rumbled in his throat. “Yes.”

Have you been waiting anxiously for something exciting?  Something that is buzzing with ideas, that can open doors to new places? Well this is what we have in the store for you. Startup Weekends that will give you epic adrenalin rushes, imploring you to explore your minds.

Here’s a question; What are the Startup Weekends?

Startup Weekends are 54-hour events where developers, designers, marketers, product managers and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups! This can be a massive break for you, so what are you waiting for?

Startup Weekends are weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if  their startup ideas are viable. On average, half of Startup Weekend’s attendees have technical backgrounds, the other half have business backgrounds. One way or another it is a great opportunity to see where you stand with your plans, whether they consist of simply testing a theory or test driving the authenticity of a well maneuvered thought. Probably the next question will be regarding the procedure so let me assure you, it’s pretty simple.

How does it work?
The events will be over the weekend so you need not worry  about cancelling any particular meetings  you might have in the week days. There is more! Really?  Yes! It is my great pleasure to inform you that the Startup Weekends will ship off on Friday evening. What you need to do for that is get register all. From then on it’s quite simple; the registered attendees will pitch their ideas to a panel of Judges/audience and get votes for it. The panel of judges will consist of a very talented  bunch of people whose sole purpose would be to listen to your ideas, focusing on each individual and gathering information about their aims and goals. Then the people with the  best ideas will be selected and the rest of the participants will form teams around those ideas. It’s a win win situation,  so worry not.
From Saturday to Sunday the teams will be mentored by successful entrepreneurs while they perform:
1. Customer validation,
2. Build business models
3. Develop a functional prototype of their idea.
On Sunday evening the teams will present their ideas to the panel of judges and then the best teams will be announced. You don’t have to worry about being left behind; this weekend will be solely focused on honing your skills and ideas.
Startup Weekend is more of a workshop for aspiring entrepreneurs than a competition yet we have lots of exciting prizes for the winners. We will also have investors on board so you might have a chance of getting funded. Better polish your ideas people cause this is going to be a fun ride!

Who are the participants?
The participants are a whole bunch of people, and you better be one of them. People (Students or Professionals) from any business or technical background, aspiring and talented indivuals looking for a break. Since Startup weekends are focused on technology based ideas, the ideas that will be pitched must have some technological part in them.  That will be the time when you get a doze of professionalism.
If you are a person who has an idea and wants to start his/her own company but does not possess the right set of skills, proper funding or a good coordinated team Startup Weekend is a must come event for you.

Why is it Needed?
Building something requires a proper foundation, something solid and worthy. Startup Weekends are giving you that opportunity,  so be sure to avail it. Specifically designed for aspiring entrepreneurs interested in receiving feedback on an idea, looking for a co-founder, or who ever wants to learn a new skill.
We also welcome anyone looking to test the entrepreneurial waters. Startup Weekends are risk-free environments where everyone is expected to roll up their sleeves and dive into the exhilarating world of startups. Hence do not be shy, with drawn or afraid to speak your minds. And the best part, the best part is that you will receive invaluable advice from the industry’s  most successful leaders. It is a great platform and it is giving you the opportunity of a lifetime. So get registered NOW!

#Review of Intent to Kill by #Author Ryshia Kennie

by Ryshia Kennie

A ruthless band of smugglers will stop at nothing to strip Cambodia of its priceless ancient artifacts, even if it means using and killing female tourists. Journalist Claire Linton knows she’s on to the story of a lifetime. But for Claire, it’s personal too: long before her “Uncle Jack” came to the U.S., he was held captive in the nightmarish killing fields of Cambodia, and Claire senses there might be a connection between that long-ago bloody history and the dark crimes plaguing the country today.

Simon Trent is a burnt-out Interpol agent who disappeared after his last case turned fatal. But with the resurgence in smuggling and all signs pointing to the man who once escaped his grasp, he comes out of hiding to finish the job that’s haunted him for years. What he doesn’t see coming is Claire, the beautiful and headstrong reporter who may be a threat to his case—and to his heart.

As Claire and Simon reluctantly join forces to unravel a mystery that reaches deep into her family history and may be his only chance at redemption, they must fight to stay one step ahead of a brutal killer—and one step away from the dangerous feelings building between them.

“Antiquity smuggling in Cambodia seems to have taken a spin with a different breed of criminal. Two weeks ago a British college student died after a fall at Angkor Wat. There have been reports that the death might not have been accidental. A 900-year-old artifact found in the woman’s knapsack led one local authority to speculate that the bleed of Cambodia’s heritage may have taken a new turn.”

Claire Linton folded the worn newspaper article and slipped it into her bag. After eight years as a small mid-western journalist working for a paper where the most exciting story was usually a weather threat that never occurred or a series of petty thefts, she was ready for more. She wanted the excitement of chasing a bigger-than-life story, the intoxicating feeling of being her own boss, of freelancing, if not full-time than at least part-time. She could hardly wait to begin asking questions, to build on the notes she’d already collected, but mixed with all of that was trepidation. This was her first trip of any duration alone. She glanced at her watch and then out

the plane’s window, where city lights covered the ground for as far as she could see. Bangkok, City of Angels.

The newspaper article had convinced her to use up her precious vacation time to come here.  It had arrived mysteriously with only a Cambodian postmark, but from the first word Claire had known that it had the potential to be the story of a lifetime. Admittedly, stripping historic sites in Cambodia wasn’t news, but a possible tie to a tourist death and implications of tourist thefts of artifacts had her intrigued. And the article had hinted at something else. The hint of an association with the Khmer Rouge. The Democratic Kampuchea, as they were formally known,

had terrorized a generation.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review. Intent to Kill by Ryshia Kennie is a detective story with all the necessary elements present. The author has elegantly described a well-thought crime story in which the main protagonist, Claire, is a journalist. She highlights the challenges faced by Claire and the people she meets on her way.

A story that comprises of love, hate, family bonds and care, Ryshia Kennie has done a great job with this book. It is a must read for all those who are fans of detective stories which consists of crimes and murder. Good Job, Ms. Kennie!

I would give this book a five star.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

The Canadian prairies are where Ryshia Kennie makes her home with her husband and one opinionated and slightly geriatric, Irish Terrier.  The winner of her city’s Writing Award in 2011, her novels have taken her characters from the depression era prairies in her first book “From the Dust” to the ancient stones of Angkor Wat in her latest book, “Intent to Kill”.  There’s never a lack of places to set a story as the too long prairie winters occasionally find her with travel journal in hand seeking adventure on foreign shores.  While facing off a Monitor Lizard before breakfast or running through the Kasbah chased by an enraged Water Carrier aren’t normal travel experiences and might never find a place in one of her stories, they do make great travel stories.  But it’s the memories of those exotic worlds, the smell of the spices, the words of a stranger, the furtive look one man gives another, that often become the catalyst for a suspenseful story with a deadly villain and an intrepid hero and heroine who must battle for their right to love or even their right to live, in a place that neither may call home.  For more, visit her website at http://www.ryshiakennie.com.

•           When did you first start writing?

I started years ago to try to do a story for publication.  Sometimes life gets in the way and things are put on hold, but even through such times I took notes and created scenes in my mind.
•           When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?

I have always had the desire to be a writer.

They very proud they know it has always been my dream to have a book published.  They can remember my plugging away at a typewriter all the time when they were little.
•           What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating books?

I think it is not so much the creating that surprise me it is the marketing you then must do.

I have always been interested in the paranormal since as a child my dad would tell me “true ghost stories”.

Seeking justice for her daughters murder Tina must seek answers in the supernatural realm. Terror is spreading over Pendale. Love is pitted against a dreadful force.

Deep into an uneasy dream Tina’s face was twisted in consternation.
Dan hadn’t stayed over this evening. She’d told him she needed time to gather strength and come to grips with what lay ahead.
He’d looked hurt. She knew he could not understand her need to be alone at such a time.
He offered to sit up with her all night.
She told him she was wrung out; she would be able to sleep a bit.
She longed to fall into unconsciousness and to block all thought.
Her bedroom felt airless.
The little clock on her nightstand seemed to have a very loud tick tonight. The dials revealed it to be 1:00 pm.
Still asleep Tina shifted her weight to lie on her back.
Her heavy cotton nightgown became bunched up under the small of her back.
Suddenly she brought up her hands folding them over her chest in the position that the dead are laid out.
Beads of sweat broke out on her face, although the temperature in her room was a cool sixty-four degrees.
She was carrying groceries to her car in a dark parking lot.
Behind her there was a small convenience store. It was lit up. The buildings light stopped at the front of the building.
Tina tossed her bag of groceries into the passenger side of the seat. Just as she lifted her leg to get in behind the wheel she thought of her mother. She’d yell up a storm if she could see her now. As a teen Tina was lectured countless times about getting into a car alone. First check out the back seat to make sure no one was lurking there, she could still her mom stress.
Tina sat her leg back down on the pavement. She opened the back door. All clear.
She slid into the front seat closing her door and rolling down her window most of the way.
Glancing out her open window she began to shake all over.
Two hands with long tapered fingers suddenly grasp the window!
As if in slow motion a hooded figure raised itself!
Her door was flung open wide.
It pushed her backward sending her sprawling across the seat.
She was immobile from fear.
The thing lowered itself to her feet.
It covered her with its form inch by inch.
Its dark cloak was spread wide to enfold her completely.
Her heart thumped so hard she felt ready to pass out praying she would.
It was up to her head now.
Tina was so cold it was as if she were entombed within a block of ice
The smell of decay surrounding her was so rank she couldn’t catch a good breath.
The hood slipped back a bit. She couldn’t decipher its features clearly. She could only make out black pinpoint eyes.
Drool oozed from its mouth. A great gob of spittle plunked down on her forehead.
She let out a scream.
She thought she’d cried out, and awoken.
It was actually only phase two.
Still dreaming she thanked the Lord that it was only a nightmare.
Lights flickered from the traffic through her drapes.
Something in the room didn’t feel right.
The sheet was shifting downward of its own accord.
Two hands grasp the foot of the bed as a cloaked figure crawled up and over her!
She surrendered herself up to it.
She was entirely passive until sirens from a passing rescue unit brought her to an actual waking state ending her ordeal.
Rest would elude her the remainder of the night. She sighed and got up from the bed.
First light would signal the start of her greatest trial.
She must commend her only offspring to eternal rest.

Sacking Austin by Lori Beth Johnson

Sacking Austin Cover

Recently divorced pro quarterback Austin Cook isn’t looking for love. After finding his serial-cheating wife in the arms of his biggest on-field rival, Austin vows to never trust a woman again. From now on, all relationships will be on his terms. Yet, when he meets a mysterious artist unlike any woman he has ever known, he finds himself forgetting about the past and living in the moment.

Tara Lee had only been looking for new brushes when she visits the art supply shop, but when she runs into the tall, dark, and delicious football star she can’t deny the immediate attraction. Sparks fly over small talk, and she knows she’s in trouble. When a one-night stand turns into so much more, Tara is torn. If Austin knew the truth about who she is, he’d never want her. Should she deny her feelings and walk away, or take the chance and risk her heart?”

“I had a good time tonight,” Austin said as they walked to her building. She maintained a two-story town home in an older neighborhood that attracted an eclectic group of residents. Artists, musicians, and writers were everywhere, but also many young urban executives had moved into the area.

She leaned back against the front of her door. “You wanna come in?” Her eyes flashed. “For coffee?”

One side of his mouth raised and he inched toward her placing his hands on either side of her head, resting them flat against the wood. “Coffee, huh?”

“You like it hot, don’t you?”

Even though he had been on the sidelines, Austin still understood how to play this game. “Girl,” he said, his southern drawl more pronounced as he moved even closer. “You are driving me crazy.”

She let out a moan as he pressed against her, the large expanse of his upper abs skimming against her breasts. She snaked a hand onto his neck. “You aren’t my type,” she whispered as his lips neared hers.

“You aren’t mine, either.” Before Austin could seal the kiss, Tara had turned and slid the key into the doorknob.

“Come on,” she said, taking his hand. “Get in here.”
